Project Ara Delayed: Google Postpones Release of Modular Smartphone

There will still be a wait before we can get our hands on the building blocks needed to assemble Google’s future smartphones. We’re talking about Project Ara, Google’s modular, low-cost, and highly customizable smartphone development division. The team working on this innovation has indeed sent a tweet to their network, effectively announcing an overall postponement of the first products’ release. The message was decidedly terse and far too cryptic, but naturally, it did not leave the curious public, who have been awaiting news for months, indifferent. Simply on the official @ProjectAra account, dated August 17, 2015, the first tweet reads: “Where are we headed next? We are looking at a few locations in the U.S. #ProjectAra #newlocationcomingsoon”. Then a second: “When? 2016. # #yeswearelate #ProjectAra”. Subsequently, a third further update was posted, with the apparent reason for the delay. Apparent, since in reality, nothing truly detailed was explained. It is indeed possible to read: “Why? Lots of iterations… more than we thought. #ProjectAra”. Many more iterations than expected and the search for a new location to launch the smartphones: these are the reasons for the extension of work that will lead to the creation of customizable modular devices.

It almost seems that the team is completely recalibrating the project, not only from the standpoint of the actual development of individual parts but also as a whole marketing idea. This could be deduced from the fact that they are “exploring” the area of the United States, as declared via Twitter. Therefore, the smartphone to be assembled almost as if talking about Lego will not be presented before 2016. However, it is not even possible to know indicatively in which period of the year it might see the light of day.
