Android 6.0 Marshmallow is nearing completion, available in the final beta.
Time for official statements from the Google operating systems development team is approaching.
Some details about Android 6.0 M have indeed been revealed.
The first curiosity to be satisfied concerns the full name: in May, in fact, during the annual Google I/O conference, the project codenamed “Android 6 M” was presented.
The “M,” we learn today thanks to a photo posted on Google+ by Google employee Alex Ruiz, stands for Marshmallow: among enthusiasts and industry insiders, this word was precisely among the likely candidates, given the already well-known and established tradition of naming new operating systems after sweets.
Regarding the official launch date of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, however, no certain news is available yet: broadly speaking, the autumn period is mentioned, without being able to provide a more precise day or release period.
The final beta version has been made available at the moment, so a rollout of the new operating system is expected in the coming months, not long from now.
The launch will primarily occur through the update of Google’s Nexus devices, among the supported models. Only later will the system upgrade reach other devices from various manufacturers, with sometimes dedicated versions.
Among the innovations to expect from Android 6.0 Marshmallow are support for USB Type-C, but especially fingerprint recognition technology.
This latter feature appears to be supported by the latest rumors regarding the next Nexus smartphone model as well: some leaks indeed speak of a fingerprint reader placed on the back of the device, which will most likely be produced again in collaboration with LG.
Another innovation will concern permission management: you will be able to decide each time which permissions to grant to various apps and which areas of your device to make inaccessible.
Finally, it seems that a lot of work has been done to make Android 6.0 leaner and lighter, regarding RAM functionality.
The direct consequence will also be energy saving, so as to ensure longer battery life.
Confirmation is therefore awaited regarding the release date of Android Marshmallow: we will not delay in providing it as soon as possible.
