Paolo Nespoli on Twitter: Space as told through tweets

Paolo Nespoli will use Twitter as a logbook during his space mission. Every day, a tweet to recount his adventure in space.

Paolo Nespoli is the Italian astronaut chosen to spend the next six months aboard the International Space Station. While the news itself is significant, for those involved in the web and social networks, the mission into space takes on a special dimension. This is because Paolo Nespoli, before leaving, promised to use Twitter daily to communicate with Earth. With a tweet and a photo each day, the astronaut will narrate his mission in space through the account @astro_paolo.
We subscribed and peeked at Paolo Nespoli’s Twitter page and were able to read his latest tweet, sent on December 15th, which reads: “Volare, oh, oh, cantaree, oh, oh, oh, oh. Let’s chase dreams together! See you soon…”.
Right now, Paolo is inside the Soyuz capsule, en route to the International Space Station, so the next tweet is likely to arrive tomorrow: it will be the very first contact from space via social networks.
While Twitter will be the quickest and easiest tool for Paolo Nespoli to communicate with the world and his followers, during the mission there will also be some videos that the astronaut will release through YouTube.
A new frontier, unimaginable just a few years ago, which – it’s safe to bet – will fascinate and engage many people in discovering space thanks to @astro_paolo‘s tweets.
