Twitter: “While You Were Away” feature rolls out

“While you were away” is the name of a new Twitter feature that allows you to “catch up” on potentially missed tweets.

New developments are coming to Twitter: a new feature has been launched on the microblogging platform. It will most likely be called “While you were away” and will be implemented gradually, involving an increasing number of subscribers over time.
The new functionality has indeed appeared on a limited number of US profiles: there, the name chosen for the service is “While you were away”.
What is it essentially? It’s a sort of reminder that allows you to read tweets you might have missed and that could potentially interest you.
Once you log into Twitter, the system will propose some unread and deemed relevant tweets in your timeline.
Up until now, however, the freshness of tweets was prioritized, showing what was shared a few minutes ago – and so on, backwards – but in strictly chronological order.
The novelty will therefore move in a direction – approximately – of what already happens on Facebook’s timeline: in this case too (and has been for a long time), it’s possible to receive more relevant updates and not just the most recent ones, thus also viewing content posted a few days prior.
So, in a sense, it can be said that Twitter is adapting to an already established and well-tested trend, precisely from the world’s largest social network.

Naturally, it is not known how the algorithm for “While you were away” will work in detail, and there will probably be further updates during development, as this novelty is being rolled out gradually, as already mentioned.
The introduction of the functionality on Italian profiles is therefore awaited.
