Sony: PlayStation compensation for Lizard Squad hacker attack

After the hack attack on the PlayStation network by the Lizard Squad group, Sony is offering compensation to users.

The hacker attack carried out by a group named Lizard Squad against Sony’s systems has already become recent news.
In the days leading up to the Christmas holidays, the PlayStation Network was indeed the victim of a large-scale attack that blocked its functionality. Gamers and all those who received a Sony gaming device as a gift were therefore unable to properly access the PlayStation Network, and were unable to fully utilize features and extras, such as multiplayer mode.
Once again, as has happened in the past, cybercriminals acted through a DDoS-type attack, at which point the Sony Network showed its inherent vulnerabilities.
The company has therefore released a statement in recent hours, through which we learn that there is a full intention to compensate users for the inconvenience caused by the hacker attack that caused the downtime until December 27, 2014.
It was therefore decided to offer, as compensation, a 10% discount applicable to purchases on the PlayStation Network Store, valid for a single online shopping occasion.
In addition, it was decided to offer 5 extra days for the PlayStation Plus service. In this specific case, the benefit will advantage several types of users: compensation will be applied, for example, to trial accounts. The same treatment will also be given to subscribers with subscriptions expiring during the days of the shutdown. Finally, of course, brand new subscribers (those, so to speak, “Christmas” ones) will have the same opportunity, as will loyal gamers.

At the time of writing, the method for extending the PlayStation Plus service has not yet been officially announced, nor has the effective start date of the refund initiative in this regard.
Details are expected in the coming hours, as Sony is presumably resolving the aftermath of the attack and organizing the compensation campaign.
The news just illustrated is, however, entirely official, as it was disseminated via the PlayStation Blog, and therefore through an organ of the company itself.
