Nikon Df: price of the vintage-looking camera

Nikon has just introduced a new camera – the Nikon Df – undoubtedly aimed at a rather select audience due to its high price and particular features.

This new addition to the Nikon catalog clearly stands out from a design perspective alone: it is indeed a camera with a vintage aesthetic, with a distinct retro flair, while still featuring advanced technologies.

The sensor is a 16.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS, with ISO sensitivity ranging from 100 to 12,800, expandable up to 204,800 (equivalent): decidedly a lot.

As with the latest top-of-the-range Nikon models, this camera also processes captured images via the Expeed 3 processor.

A strong point is the speed: quick reaction to the shot, and equally quick startup time.

The images will be precise not only due to the sensor itself but also because the Nikon Df mounts a high-quality optical viewfinder that allows for 100% framing and 0.7x magnification.

All this can be evaluated and checked via the display, an 8-centimeter diagonal LCD with 921k dots.

Many scenes are available to ensure a precise shot in any situation and many automatic functions are available, with the added benefit of fast in-camera editing, thanks to Picture Control.

It should be noted that the Nikon Df does not allow video recording: a specific choice that would deserve to be evaluated over time, to understand its reception or lack thereof by the user interested in purchasing it.

It therefore seems that with this camera, Nikon wants to propose a return to pure photography, without other “frills”: a genuine dive into the past, albeit in a modern guise.

However, the possibility of mounting any Nikon lens on this camera is interesting: it is compatible with virtually the entire Nikon F range, even relative to non-AI Nikkor lenses.

Regarding the price of the Nikon Df, we are talking about around 3000 euros, in a kit with a lens.

The available colors – starting from November – will be black or the black and silver combination.
