News at Nikon: the Nikon D4, the DSLR presented as the “successor” to the successful D3, launched about five years ago.
Two major innovations immediately stand out to the professional user, to whom the Nikon D4 is specifically aimed: the new image processor, the Expeed 3; the sensor, now at 16.2 megapixels.
It features an RGB sensor with 91,000 pixels that manages scene recognition and while being a camera, it shoots truly impeccable videos, as a lot of research and attention have been devoted precisely to the video part. The result is full HD 1080p videos worthy of a camcorder.
Whether for photos or videos, everything can be “offloaded” as you choose onto the brand-new Sony XQD cards – extremely fast and capacious, the forefront of storage – or onto the more traditional compact flash cards.
Qualitatively, the Nikon D4 delivers truly high performance; in terms of speed, another important record is set: the maximum continuous shooting speed reaches 11 frames per second.
All this without color distortion or loss of sharpness: this is thanks to the processor and the fact that much has been done to expand ISO sensitivity which on the Nikon D4 ranges from ISO 100 to ISO 12800: a powerhouse in every situation.
Attention is also given to silence thanks to the Multi-CAM 3500FX AF autofocus system with 51 points, which is also quite fast.
Every function and customization option is managed through the monitor, a 3.2-inch display (8 centimeters diagonal) with 921,000 dots.
All enclosed in a very lightweight magnesium alloy body making this camera highly portable and suitable for every use, for professionals always on the move.
Also worth noting is the wired LAN connection, already integrated into the camera body, making it extremely useful for rapid sharing and file transfers both via LAN and wirelessly.
Regarding the price of the Nikon D4, it has been officially set at $6,000 (or $5999 to be precise): this is the price for the body only, minus any accessories.
The Nikon D4 is expected to arrive in stores during February.
