What were the most searched words on Google in 2019? Among the words that peaked in 2019 in Italy are Nadia Toffa, followed by the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral and the Sanremo festival.
Why?
It’s the “whys” that capture our attention: current events with “why did the government fall“, “why are they called sardines“, “why is Turkey attacking the Kurds“, “why is there a war in Syria” and “why isn’t the MOSE working“; moving on to historical curiosities with “why haven’t we returned to the Moon” and the recurring “why is Ferragosto celebrated“.
What does it mean?
Alongside the “whys“, there are the “what does it mean” searches, which we looked into concerning tourist destinations – like Machu Picchu and Hollywood – summer hits, economic-political news, and, why not, even a bit of gossip. But there’s an emerging trend that has captured the interest of Italians in 2019: DIY searches. And while it might seem commonplace to find Christmas decorations, carnival costumes, or Easter place cards at the top of the list (let’s admit it, everyone loves to dabble in DIY during the holidays… ?), we were surprised to find that the trending items were a chicken coop or a DIY air conditioner… A new way of living at home? Maybe we just like thinking that 🙂
