All titles from the Mondadori Group will be available on Google ebooks and Google Books thanks to the agreement between Mondadori and Google.
In Italy, there are often complaints about the limited number of ebooks available in Italian. The same could be said for Google Books, which, despite having many entries, features many old books and few current titles. This problem is now overcome thanks to the agreement between Mondadori and Google: all books in the Mondadori Group’s catalog will be available for both the Google Books service – already active in Italy – and Google eBooks, recently launched in the United States and soon to arrive in Europe).
This refers to about 10,000 titles published by Edizioni Mondadori, Einaudi, Sperling & Kupfer, and Edizioni Piemme; 1,600 of these are already available in ebook format.
Maurizio Costa of Mondadori commented, “The agreement signed with Google certainly represents an important opportunity for our Group to widely disseminate the quality of our content and our publishing production”; for their part, Google, in the person of Santiago de la Mora, echoed, “This is a significant step for the promotion of Italian culture and will mean greater opportunities for Italian authors and readers worldwide” and added, “Our hope is that Google eBooks will serve as a stimulus for the online book sector, and thanks to the collaboration with major publishers like Mondadori, we can achieve this goal”.
