Official information has arrived on the price of the Nexus S in Italy, available from February. Compared to the version already on sale in the United States, we note a couple of differences in the technical specifications of the Nexus S.
Just over a month ago we announced the arrival on the market of Nexus S, Google’s smartphone produced by Samsung. Today we add to the topic as the Nexus S price in Italian stores has been officially announced.
Google’s smartphone will hit shelves in a few days, in February 2011, at the price of 549 euros.
The Nexus S is probably the most anticipated smartphone of the first half of 2011, due to the fact that the integrated operating system is Android 2.3, also known as Gingerbread: a novelty many are eager to test.
We note two differences between the American version of the Nexus S and the one soon arriving in Europe and Italy: the Google smartphone will no longer be equipped with the 4-inch SuperAMOLED display. Instead, it has been fitted with a Super Clear LCD screen, whose diagonal remains unchanged at 4 inches.
The second difference concerns the video recording system: the American version limits to 720p, while the version that will reach Italy cannot exceed 480p.
All other Nexus S features already announced will remain unchanged.
Google is no stranger to launching branded smartphones: we recall the Nexus One, made with HTC. A project that, however, did not yield exactly the results hoped for by the Mountain View giant, given the relatively modest sales of the device.
Carlo Balocco, Vice President of the IT & Telecom divisions of Samsung Electronics Italy, is very satisfied with the global project and its development: “We are truly enthusiastic about the collaboration with Google, which led to the realization of the first device equipped with the long-awaited Android 2.3 operating system. Nexus S is concrete proof of our commitment to bringing the most advanced technology to market first.”
What seems evident is that, even in the presence of some issues reported in America – such as the sms bug that we talked about just a few days ago – Samsung acted quickly to fix everything, releasing the appropriate update. This is definitely a sign of attention to the product which, at this point, will arrive in Italy already “refined” compared to the first US release.
In any case, it will be the market that determines the quality of the Nexus S, expected soon and offered at the recommended price of 549 euros. At the time of writing, no mobile operator promotions for the sale of Nexus S combined with offers or tariff plans have been received. For the more curious, here is a video of Nexus S in action.
