The beta version of Google Cloud Print has been released, Google’s service that allows you to print directly from your mobile device, whether it’s a mobile phone, tablet, or smartphone.

In a socio-technical era increasingly characterized by mobility, remote printing can sometimes be challenging. However, with the arrival of the beta version of the new Google Cloud Print service on iOS and Android, printing a text document directly from your smartphone is now much easier.
In true cloud spirit, Google Cloud Print resolves the age-old issue of needing to install drivers and network-share printers. All you need is Chrome 9, a Gmail account, and to associate the printer you wish to use with it. That’s it.
Once you’ve selected the document to print (whether it’s available via Google Docs or an attachment in a Gmail email), simply choose “Print” from the dropdown menu and find your document ready and printed, even from a distance.
An example of practical application for Google Cloud Print? Consider the need, for instance, to print a personal travel itinerary but being unable to do so because you’re at the office or elsewhere. By using Google Cloud Print, you can simply send the command to your home printer and find everything already printed when you return.
Currently, the service, still imperfect and under development, only works with Windows, but solutions for OS X and Linux are in development.
A great new feature that already smells like competition for Apple’s AirPrint service.
