At the 2013 final high school exams, smartphone detectors could make an appearance to prevent cheating.
The 2013 high school final examsare approaching, and with them come doubts and fears: not only those stemming from having to take the tests but also those of teachers, examiners, and principals.
Each year, in fact, the presence of smartphones e and tabletsin classrooms has absolutely grown, becoming an issue to consider when it comes to tests and even more so for the final exams.
The possibilities, in fact, of resorting to the web or tips from friends and family via smartphone connection have decidedly increased, and therefore the teaching staff working on the days of the 2013 high school final examsare wondering how to curb this phenomenon.
The old “cheat sheets” and methods of copying with notes and tricks passed down through generations are banned; now everything runs on the screens of our own devices.
If for years examiners have been asking students to hand in mobile phones, smartphones, and tablets at the entrance to the exam room, for the next test in June the National Association of Principalshas instead decided to request a more decisive and radical intervention.
In fact, a request has been made to the new Minister of Education, Maria Chiara Carrozza, for a specific technical provision: smartphone detectors.
The president of the ANP, Giorgio Rembado, has also called for the collaboration of the Postal Police, so that they can monitor the internet to prevent certain websites from quickly posting the solutions to the 2013 final exam questions.
This second option seems decidedly more difficult to implement.
The idea of installing smartphone detectorsat the exam centers comes from experimentation currently underway in Germany: here, in fact, the technology has already been in use for some time.
It appears rather difficult at the current stage to equip schools with this equipment in a short time, but what is certain is that the proposal has been launched.
