Mark Zuckerberg: Man of the Year 2010 and Generous Benefactor

Mark Zuckerberg is Time’s Man of the Year 2010, earning him a cover feature. The founder of Facebook, besides standing out for his innovative potential, is making headlines by donating a significant portion of his wealth to charity.

Despite the preference of the web community, which would have favored Julian Assange of Wikileaks for the cover of Time magazine, it was Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, who ultimately graced the cover. He is the Man of the Year 2010 because, according to the editorial staff and management of Time, he connected over half a billion people who, by signing up for Facebook, have effectively established a powerful and entirely new system for information exchange.
This is the innovation provided by Zuckerberg to the world, according to Time. The fact that the father of all social networks has exhibited clear privacy concerns for users seems to have had no impact on the positive judgment resulting from Zuckerberg‘s election as Man of the Year.
As if the blatant and public recognition were not enough, his bank account is also smiling happily at this young man who, however, has decided to join The Giving Pledge, the club of billionaires who donate half of their personal wealth to charitable causes. Mark Zuckerberg has indeed responded positively to the invitation from Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, founders of the initiative, leveraging his considerable fortune accumulated in such a short time. “I don’t want to wait until I’m old to give back; there’s just so much to do,” stated the Facebook mogul.
And so, between a cover story and a generous donation, the world warmly welcomes this very young billionaire who, on the privacy of others more or less consciously entrusted to Facebook, has managed to build an empire.
