iPad: confirmed price for the new Apple device

The wait is over. No news on the name front for theiPad presented by Apple during the keynote at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The new device throughout the entire event was always called “the new iPad” and not iPad 3 o iPad HD as many had speculated. iPad sold 15.4 million units in the last quarter, more than all PCs from all brands combined.

How much does the new iPad cost?

More than a new device, Apple, through the voice of Tim Cook, presented the evolution of theiPad 2 which has undergone interesting updates but many other innovations were left out. The price of the new iPad which will officially be released on March 16th (in Italy it will be available only from March 23rd) remains unchanged. The prices still range, as usual, from $499 to $829 depending on the classic storage options (16, 32, and 64GB but not 128GB as previously rumored). The previous device, the iPad 2, will remain regularly on sale but will see a price drop of $100.

What are the new features of the new iPad?

The numerous innovations made people think up to the end of the keynote that Apple presented a new device and only at the end was it clear that the device is just called iPad and that, in fact, it is not a new iPad but simply the evolution of the previous one.

Let’s look at the most important new features:

• New 2048×1536 display, 1 million pixels (more than a Full HD television);
• A5X Quad Core Chip. This chip, as stated by Apple, is 4 times faster than the Tegra 3 (used by Android);
• Retina Display;
• 5 Megapixel camera with 1080p video capability;
• Voice Dictation on the new iPad but not in Italian;
• the new iPad is 4G LTE;
• battery life of 10 hours (like the previous one), 9 hours on LTE;
• Dimensions: 9.4 mm;
• Weight as the previous one;
• White and black colors;
• Vector drawing app from Autodesk available from April on iOS. Exports files over 100 MB. ;
• Ace Supremacy, flight simulation
• Epic Games’ Infinity Blade app;
• Software: iWork, Garage Band, iMovie with free updates;
• iPhoto for photo editing with sharing capabilities via the Photo Journals feature.
