Apple’s iBookStore finally arrives in Italy: from now on, it is possible for Italian publishers to upload ebooks, making them available for download by Apple users.
Apple has decided to open iBookStore to Italy as well: until today, in fact, Italian publishers have not been able to include ebooks and titles in their catalogs for Italian users.
RCS Libri has immediately seized the opportunity to test the service, making about 1000 ebooks available on iBookStore, with prices varying according to the titles offered.
A potentially global market since digital texts, by entering the platform prepared by Apple exclusively for ebooks, will not only be accessible to Italian users but to everyone worldwide, as they are uploaded to a global service.
iBookStore is one of the most downloaded applications on iOS devices and until today it has been the application that Italian users have most eagerly awaited to fully exploit: its presentation, which occurred concurrently with that of the iPad, had raised hopes for full usability within a few weeks of its launch in the United States.
The wait, however, has been very long, but today the gap can be bridged.
It appears to be a bizarre coincidence: the presentation of Kindle Fire and the new models of the ebook reader Kindle.
That Apple has decided to open up to the Italian market – but simultaneously to about twenty other countries, especially in Europe – right now, may bring a smile, but it is also evident that, given the speed at which Italian ebooks are appearing, the diplomatic work to reach agreements with various publishers has clearly been fruitful over the past few months.
Whether it’s a coincidence or not, the advantage is for the users: finally, iPhone and iPad owners can download ebooks at will.
