Huawei retracts and clarifies that the development staff is not working on the dual-operating system smartphone. What could be the reasons for this U-turn?
It seemed that the smartphone with a dual operating system was on the verge of its debut. A few weeks ago, rumors about such a project developed by Huawei led many to think about the real possibility of soon having a device equipped simultaneously withtwo operating systems.
Specifically, there was talk of the combination ofAndroid e Windows Phone: both would have been present and available, to be then chosen individually by the end-user.
An official press release issued by the company Huawei has, however, nipped any enthusiasm or curiosity in the bud. It was clarified that at the moment, work is not being done at all on the creation of asmartphone with a dual operating system, although there is always great interest in both Android and Windows Phone.
The hypotheses on why a such a clear about-face was decided multiply, but the most popular ones concern the reactions of Google and Microsoft to Huawei’s proposal.
It seems that neither one nor the other would have welcomed the combination.
It will be recalled that spokespersons for Google did not express a favorable opinion in the wake of the very first statements by Shao Yang – Huawei’s marketing manager – regarding the dual-boot smartphone project, especially since the Chinese company clearly expressed the idea that this would increase the diffusion and use of Windows Phone.
As for Microsoft, although the Redmond company denies having exerted pressure to curb the project, the “non-preference” for projects of this type is common knowledge.
In fact, it has already been discussed regarding the creation of an Asus Transformer called “Book Duet” and a similar product from Samsung: in these cases too, Microsoft would not have expressed a favorable opinion, as learned from the columns of the Wall Street Journal.
Amidst the whirlwind of hypotheses, of spoken and unspoken words, one thing appears certain: Huawei will not be releasing a smartphone with a dual operating system anytime soon.
