Google Video says goodbye to screens worldwide: here’s how to proceed to avoid losing your videos uploaded to Google Video, available for just a few more days.
An official communication has arrived regarding the fate of Google Video: from April 29th, the service will cease to exist. It’s the announced end of a product that, if you look closely, no longer makes sense: after the acquisition of YouTube, Google already has the largest video service in hand, so maintaining another platform – now almost forgotten by users – is a costly choice. Furthermore, it has been two years since Google Video stopped accepting new video uploads, only allowing existing ones to be viewed: the closure, therefore, surprises no one and seems, on the contrary, a considered and wise decision.
Thus, from April 29th, everything that has passed through Google Video over the years will no longer be publicly accessible: it is therefore time to save your videos uploaded to Google Video.
For this operation, Google grants users a few extra days: the deadline to save your own footage is set for May 13th, after which everything will disappear irreversibly.
How to save videos from Google Video, perhaps to transfer them to YouTube?
Unfortunately, no automatic system has been provided for this transfer, so you will need to re-upload the video in question to your PC and only then can you decide – if you wish – to make it available on YouTube.
What has been provided, however, is a dedicated button to download videos directly (in FLV format), all summarized on a single page with a summary table of your uploads.
Since these operations require time, we recommend not performing them too close to the May 13, 2011 deadline.
