Chromecast is the stick designed by Google to turn your home TV into a smart tv.
Competition is open to Apple TV and similar devices: Google has just presented a new product in this regard, decidedly at a low cost price.
It is called “Chromecast” and it is a dongle that allows you to turn your TV into a smart TV.
How does Chromecast work?
Simply insert this special dongle into the TV’s HDMI port; at this point, streaming multimedia content from your smartphone, computer (desktop or laptop), or tablet will be activated.
Chromecast is based on the Chrome operating system but provided in a very simplified version, so there is no Android as many might have expected.
The whole operation is truly foolproof for those less accustomed to technology and settings, which is why the product can be a winner, as it is very simple to use with what you already own at home.
In fact, the wi-fi network will be sufficient to stream the content you want to watch on your TV screen, without the need to set up anything special.
Chromecast will run on the Chrome browser – as is easily imaginable – and on four other applications: YouTube (and it couldn’t be otherwise), Google Music, Google Movies, and Netflix. It is hypothesized that in the coming months, dedicated versions for other applications will also be launched, but it is still too early to talk about it.
Given that its operation is very elementary, here are the purely technical characteristics: Chromecast is equipped with a Marvell DE3005 processor for decoding Full HD 1080p video; it then features an Azurewave module for integrated 802.11 a 2.4GHz WiFi and finally allows for 5.1 multichannel audio.
As for the price of Google Chromecast, it is 35 dollars on the US Play Store but availability has already ended: it sold like hotcakes.
The purchase would theoretically also be possible on Amazon (also the US platform) and Best Buy.
However, for the arrival of Google Chromecast in Italyand more generally in Europe we will have to wait, also because from the aforementioned markets there is no possibility of shipping to the old continent.
In fact, no information has been received from Google regarding the release of Chromecast outside the US market.
