From wall to wall, a status concerning one’s privacy is spreading on Facebook. It is a hoax, here’s why.

Facebook is fertile ground for hoaxes of various kinds and the latest one to appear is starting to circulate more and more insistently even among Italian users.
It is the status update that talks about privacy protection.
The text reads as follows: “I, firstname lastname, declare the following: Any person or entity or agent or agency of any government, governmental or private structure, using or monitoring this site or any of its associated sites, does not have my permission to use information from my profile, or any part of its content appearing herein, including but not limited to my photos, or comments on my photos or any other “image” published on my profile or timeline. I am informed that such structures are strictly prohibited from disclosing, copying, distributing, spreading or collecting information or taking any other action concerning or against me through this profile and its content. Previous prohibitions also apply to employees, interns, agents or any personnel under the direction or control of such entities. The content of this profile is private and the information contained within it is reserved for the circle of people to whom it is intended. Violation of my privacy is punishable by law. UCC – 1 – 308 – 1-103. Facebook is now a publicly traded entity. Everyone is encouraged to post a notice like this, or if you prefer, you can copy and paste this version. Not posting such a statement at least once indirectly allows the use of objects such as images and information in your public status updates“.
Posting this status on your wall absolutely serves no purpose, primarily because in Italy the cited law (the Uniform Commercial Code) has no legal value, being a regulation only in force in America.
Furthermore, this alleged request would have no value even towards Facebook itself, since – when one decides to register on this social network – one accepts the conditions imposed by it.
In particular, in the second point of the “Statement of Rights and Responsibilities“, it is clearly read that “the user grants Facebook a non-exclusive, transferable license that may be sublicensed, royalty-free and worldwide to use any IP Content published on Facebook or in connection with Facebook (“IP License”). The IP License ends when the user deletes their account or the IP Content on their account, unless such content has been shared with third parties and they have not deleted it.“
For these reasons, the privacy status that has been circulating these days also in Italy can largely be considered a hoax.
