Videos now account for almost half of the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram, and Reels is the fastest-growing content format. Reels is the best solution for creators to get discovered, stay connected with their audience, and earn money. People can find and share relevant and engaging content in a simple and fun way.

Since its launch in the United States, various creators like Kurt Tocci (and his cat, Zeus) have shared comical situations. Author and writer Andrea Gibson offered a reading of her poems, Nigerian-American couple Ling and Lamb tried new foods, and dancer and creator Niana Guerrero showcased trending dances, like the #ZooChallenge.

Facebook Reels for iOS and Android is available in over 150 countries worldwide, including Italy. Soon there will also be news to help creators earn money, new tools for content creation, and more places where they can watch and create Facebook Reels. Tests of new overlay ads, such as banners and sticker ads, are moving forward.
Among the new features of Facebook Reels: Remixes, the ability to share on Facebook Stories, and much more.

More ways to earn from Facebook Reels

Several solutions will allow creators to earn money from their Reels. The Reels Play bonus program, part of the $1 billion investment for creators, pays eligible content producers up to $35,000 per month, based on the views of their qualifying Reels. These bonuses have helped creators like Jason the Great and Tasha Caroline fund the creation of their Reels and understand which content performs best on Facebook. In the coming months, the bonus program will be extended to other countries so that even more creators can be rewarded for creating Reels loved by their communities.

By helping creators earn a significant income through our monetization products, such as in-stream ads and Stars, Meta is also testing direct monetization options for Facebook Reels through ad revenue sharing and fan support. It is expanding tests of overlay ads for Facebook Reels to all creators in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and in other countries starting in the coming weeks.

There will initially be two formats: ads that appear as semi-transparent overlays at the bottom of a Facebook Reel, and sticker ads: a static image that the creator can place anywhere in their Reel. These non-intrusive ads will allow creators to earn a portion of their revenue.

Ad program

All creators in the US, Canada, and Mexico who are part of our in-stream ads program are automatically eligible for monetization through ads within their public Reels. By mid-March, these tests will also be extended to creators in almost all countries where in-stream ads are available. Creators can learn more about overlay ads by visiting our Meta for Creators blog. In the coming weeks, there will also be tests of Facebook Reels Stars so that people can support their creators by purchasing and sending them Stars while watching their Reels. Both overlay ads and Stars are solutions designed to allow creators to earn and grow proportionally to the people who watch and interact with their Reels on Facebook.

Brand suitability

Meta is also testing brand suitability controls, including Publisher Lists, Blocked Item Lists, Content Filters, and Posting Reports for banner and sticker ads on Facebook Reels in all regions where they are available. This will give advertisers more control if they feel their ads are appearing in places they don’t consider suitable for their brand or a creator’s campaign. Additionally, since October last year, full-screen and immersive ads that appear between Reels have been in testing and will be rolled out globally in the coming months. Just like with organic content on Facebook, people will be able to comment, like, view, save, share, or skip them.

More editing features

In addition to last month’s features, creators worldwide will be able to access:

  • Remix: Create your Reel next to an existing Reel that has been publicly shared on Facebook. When you create a Remix, you can create a Reel that includes all or part of another creator’s Reel.
  • 60-second Reels: Create Reels up to 60 seconds long.
  • Drafts: Soon you will be able to create a reel and choose to “Save draft” under the Save button.
  • Video Clipping: In the coming months, we plan to launch video clipping tools that will make it easier for creators who post live, long-form, or recorded video to test out different formats.

Create and discover reels in new places

In the coming weeks, the following updates will be introduced to make it easier to create and discover reels in new places:

  • Reels in Stories: You can share public reels in Stories on Facebook, making it easier to share your favorite reels with friends and giving creators more visibility. You will also be able to create reels from existing public Stories.
  • Reels in Watch: You will be able to watch and create reels directly within the Watch screen.
  • At the top of the Feed: A new Reels label will be added to the top of the Feed so you can easily create and watch reels in just a few clicks.
  • Suggested Reels in Feed: in some countries, you can suggest reels from people you don’t know who you might like directly in your Feed.

Meta is exploring solutions like crossposting that can make it easier for creators to share their reels on both Facebook and Instagram. You can find Reels on Facebook on the Feed, in Groups, and on Watch. When you view a reel, you can follow the creator directly from the video, like, comment, or share it with friends.
