Facebook Messenger Introduces Voice Message Transcription

Testing begins on Facebook Messenger to enable voice transcriptions.

Facebook continues to invest heavily in its messaging app, Facebook Messenger. This is evidenced by recent statements from the leadership team responsible for the app’s development, revealing current and upcoming projects. It has been learned that voice message transcriptions are coming to Facebook Messenger, according to David Marcus, head of the application’s development team. The feature, which will offer a written preview of a voice message, is already in the testing phase. This will be particularly useful in contexts where it is temporarily not possible to listen to a short recording sent by a contact. Consider, for example, someone in a library reading room who receives a voice message and does not have headphones. Until now, the only option to listen to the file’s content would have been to leave the library, either immediately or after finishing their study. From now on, however, it will be possible to avoid waiting, by relying on the voice message transcription.

The other side of this innovation is represented by the ability to dictate a message using your voice, having it transcribed by the app, and then delivering it to the recipient solely in written form. At the moment, these brand-new functionalities have already been integrated into the Facebook Messenger app menu for a very limited number of users. Once this testing phase is completed, after making any necessary modifications for the proper development and functioning of the app, the new project will be rolled out to all users worldwide.
