Facebook’s Hello: App to Identify Who’s Calling Us

Facebook’s Hello is a dialer app that allows you to know the name of who is calling you, even if they are not in your contacts.

Facebook is venturing into a sector that is, in some ways, unprecedented for its field: that of dialer apps.
The project “Hello” has indeed been presented, culminating in the release of an app that allows you to know who a received phone number belongs to.
By installing Facebook’s Hello, you will actually replace the default Android dialer.
At this point, Hello will display the personal data of incoming numbers when the phone receives a call.
Unlike Android’s default dialer, the number will not be “searched for” and matched in the contacts but can be “traced” even without accessing the phone’s storage.
The reason is simple: Hello connects to Facebook, not to your personal contacts.
This means that, in principle, if you have associated your mobile number with your Facebook profile, whoever receives a call from you will see your first and last name appear on their display, regardless of whether your number is in the recipient’s contacts.
To avoid misunderstandings and privacy issues, the staff who developed Facebook’s Hello has stated that the information available through the app will only and exclusively be that which users have made public on Facebook. Alternatively, it will be the information that these contacts have already decided to share with us on Facebook.

The app Hello is probably not a direct competitor to a dialer like Android’s; rather, it appears as an additional way to prevent Facebook users from getting “distracted” by non-Facebook activities.
A new way to expand the social network’s scope of action, probably not so much to explore new sectors as to provide subscribers with ever more tools so as not to induce them to seek “distractions” elsewhere.
