BlackBerry Passport is the next flagship device from BlackBerry, characterized by its square-shaped screen.
BlackBerry is ready to return to the smartphone market, this time offering a model entirely dedicated to professionals and therefore designed to become a work tool.
The name of the new device is BlackBerry Passport and it is fundamentally characterized by a very recognizable feature: the display shape is indeed square.
A very specific choice, although the overall shape of the entire smartphone remains rectangular. Certainly, however, they have moved away from the latest terminals presented, to focus on the square shape.
The display has a diagonal of 4.5 inches Full HD with a resolution of 1440×1440 pixels and according to the company, it represents a better solution for working, even compared to smartphones with larger but rectangular screens.
On this type of screen, according to BlackBerry’s assessments, reading documents is better: it is generally estimated that the best usability of this type of file is given by having 66 characters per line. Rectangular smartphones show between 40 and 44, while the BlackBerry Passport reaches 60.
They have also returned to the QWERTY keyboard but resized and equally supported by a virtual “mini-keyboard”.
These are the only certain and official information released by the company: in fact, nothing else has been revealed regarding the hardware specifications of the processor, RAM, camera, and more.
The release date is not yet clear, although on the official company blog it is hinted at a near future, probably even by the end of 2014.
It is hypothesized that the launch of the BlackBerry Passport may coincide with – or shortly follow – the presentation of the next version of the BlackBerry 10.3 operating system, with which the BlackBerry Passport could be equipped.
As soon as further details become known, both in terms of technical specifications and price and availability in international markets, we will undoubtedly discuss it again.
