Voice messages, text, photos, videos, and secure, un-interceptable chats: this is the promise of BitTorrent’s Bleep app.
BitTorrent is making headlines again, this time with a significant update to its Bleep app.
Thanks to this update, the messaging app developed by the BitTorrent team now offers a high level of security, making messages exchanged between users encrypted and “self-destructing” – so to speak.
With Bleep, chats are encrypted and, more importantly, are not stored on any server: the basic principle remains the same as that used for exchanges via BitTorrent. Material of any type does not reside on servers but is exchanged directly between users.
Similarly, the Bleep messaging app is based on a peer-to-peer principle, in addition to the fact that data transit occurs in an encrypted manner.
What’s more, the latest update makes it possible to set the “whisper” mode, which ensures that a received message remains visible only for 25 seconds after it’s opened (and therefore read), after which the text or image will disappear.
Finally, a system developed by the BitTorrent team even prevents saving or taking screenshots of conversations or parts thereof.
Absolute secrecy and ample privacy, considering that it’s also possible to avoid making your data visible, opting for example to use only a nickname.
The Bleep app can be downloaded on desktop platforms (including Macs), on Android, Windows Phone, and recently also on iOS.
