Bing like Google: spotlight on mobile-friendly sites. However, no penalties are expected, at the moment, for all other portals.
The web world is all focused on mobile connections: more and more internet users now primarily use smartphones and tablets to browse, this is a glaring observation.
Just as Google has been doing for some time, it is learned that the search engine Bing has also turned its attention more towards all those sites that are structured in such a way as to be well displayed and used via mobile devices.
However, it should be noted that the two search engines seem to want to maintain very different positions regarding sites that have not yet been optimized for smartphones and tablets.
If Google has launched a specific update to its algorithm, penalizing sites that have not adapted to the latest trends, Bing still shows a certain “tolerance” in this regard, so to speak.
No penalties for the moment, only a more prominent display for mobile-friendly pages with an indication of this characteristic next to the search results. The Bing staff has indeed stated that “for mobile searches on Bing, you can expect to see the most significant results for a given search query always at the top of the results, even when the pages are not fully mobile-friendly. While the changes will improve ranking for mobile-friendly pages, web pages that are most relevant to a given query that are not yet mobile-friendly will not be penalized. This is a very fine balance that requires some iteration, but we think we are now close to the goal“.
Obviously, the transition to site development in favor of mobile-friendly optimization is encouraged, if only to allow users to easily view sites on smaller format screens. And precisely to encourage a move in this direction, the Microsoft staff working on Bing has made sections of Webmaster Tools available to help webmasters fix sites easily, and test the results immediately.
