Bing Recovers Ground on Google, Capturing 30% of the US Search Market for Microsoft

Bing’s ascent in the online search world shows no signs of stopping. In the United States, Bill Gates’ engine has reached 30% of the market, chipping away at Google’s share, which stands at 64.4%. The situation in Europe is different, with Google still holding an almost absolute leadership.

Perhaps due to Microsoft’s partnerships (like with Facebook), the undisputed leadership of Google is beginning to shift. Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, now holds 30% of the search market in the United States. It seems like just a few months ago that Google held not only an absolute monopoly on search but also on the internet itself. Today, however, we can talk about a change in direction with Bing’s growth (though not yet decisive), offering hope for the search landscape where more players are needed for cybernetic democracy.

It’s clear that Bing’s growth comes at Google’s expense (64.4%), which, according to the latest overseas data, has seen a slight decline over the past two months. These figures become much more alarming when considering that Google has lost 10% of the American search market since August 2010 (source: Experian Hitwise). In August 2010, Bing held just 9.87% of the market share. If Bing’s growth is sustained over time, it could lead to unexpected results in the near future. Some predict that Bing’s race could see it overtake Google within a year. All of this, of course, within the United States.

The situation in Europe, on the other hand, is very different from the American one. Google still commands 95% of the search market on the old continent, but the trends from America offer significant hope. A market with multiple players benefits both users and the growth of the internet.

While awaiting potential countermoves from Google, which seems more focused on other types of acquisitions currently, such as **ITA Software, which is making significant waves in the US**, we’ll be watching Bing’s recent success closely, keeping a vigilant eye on developments in the online search sector from now until the end of the year.
