The path is cleared for the release of the new Asus Nexus Play, the anticipated Google tablet. Based on an existing Asus tablet, Google aims to enter this market.
Google also seems keen to enter the tablet sector, releasing its “Asus Nexus Play” starting in May.
This could be its launch name, which, according to well-informed “Asian sources,” should also have a competitive price, aiming to aggressively enter the budget tablet market currently dominated by the Kindle Fire.
According to rumors, therefore, the Google tablet will feature the next version of the Android operating system. We are talking about a version beyond Ice Cream Sandwich, as development is underway for what will likely be called Android Jelly Bean.
Indeed, it has been known for some time that Asus is actively collaborating with Google to refine the integration of the new operating system on its tablets.
Regarding technical details, there is still much secrecy, and it is premature to speak with certainty, but apparently, work is underway on a 7-inch tablet with a 1280×800 pixel screen resolution.
The processor choice might be a quad-core, immediately suggesting the quad-core Nvidia Tegra.
Amidst speculation and whispers from Asia, it seems the model on which the Google tablet will be “based” could be the Asus Eee Pad MeMO ME370T, presented at CES 2012 and also covered by FullPress.
The price of the Google Asus Nexus Play is expected to range between $199 and $249. While the lower figure recalls the Kindle Fire’s price, the higher figure, upon closer inspection, is precisely the launch price of the Eee Pad MeMO ME370T.
Will this parallel hold true?
If the May release is confirmed, official and more precise news should follow in the coming weeks.
