Apple surpasses Google, the Cupertino brand ranks first in the Top Brands

Apple’s rise continues as it keeps collecting successes and praise. The Cupertino company dethrones Google in the special Top Brands ranking, establishing itself as the most valued brand.

The story of Apple teaches us that nothing is lost. For a few days now Apple has overtaken Google in the special overall ranking “Top Brands” by Millward Brown that measures the value of a given brand. Today the brand Apple is valued at 153.285 billion dollars against “just” 111.498 billion dollars for Google, in second place.

The “Top Brands” ranking related to the world of technology also tells us that Microsoft (Apple’s lifelong rival) has slipped to fourth place (technology, in fifth place in the overall ranking) while on the podium, in third place, we find a historic brand mainly linked to the hardware sector, IBM.

Apple thus not only managed to emerge from a dark period over a decade ago, but has even carved out an important leadership role linked more to the phone world than to the PC sector, where it used to compete with Microsoft. The iPhone first and the iPad later, are undoubtedly the strengths and relaunch points for the Cupertino company.

Google and Apple are not rivals except for turnover and brand perception, even though Big G is also starting to push in mobile. Google’s rivals are in tenth place in the tech sector and go by the name of social networks, or rather, Facebook. Apple, however, has more than one rival. Besides Bill Gates’ company (which competes with the Bing search engine also against Google), Steve Jobs’ company must face players in the mobile sector. Motorola is not part of the special top 20 ranking; after a flourishing period, the phone company has had a real collapse. Nokia’s rivals (seventeenth place) seemed to have absolute dominance in the mobile field but the switch to advanced smartphones set the Finnish company back so much that today it is desperately seeking a relaunch and new and important leaderships.

Apple, therefore, overtakes Google in the overall “Top Brands,” becoming the most important brand in the world. The tech sector continues its rise thanks to brands based on sometimes similar and sometimes completely different principles. The sealing of Apple-branded products against the openness of Google services makes one think. Could there be a war between commercial products and services against open source ones?
