Pure and simple connection between people: Facebook Places aims to make people aware that, in a certain area, at a certain moment, there is a friend nearby. The service is also aimed at businesses that, who knows, could use the medium to launch promotions and advertise, with specific attention to those in the area.
To use Facebook Places, you will need to check-in via smartphone or mobile phone with GPS localization; at this point, you will become a dot on the map, so you can see if there is another dot (a friend) nearby.
A further function of Facebook Places is the ability to “geo-tag” a friend, even without the direct interested party doing so. A double-edged sword, to the detriment of the privacy of those who might prefer not to be geolocated. To avoid this, it is important to set the privacy settings related to Facebook Places, restricting permissions or completely disabling the tag function by friends.
Here is the demonstration video of Facebook Places.
