**Facebook** surprises its users by announcing the release of **Facebook Camera**, a new application available on the App Store dedicated to photos.
Just a few weeks ago, we discussed a surprise move by the social media giant: referring to the acquisition of Instagram by Facebook.
Even more surprising, especially in light of the recent purchase, is the announcement of **Facebook Camera**, the new application available on the App Store dedicated to the world of images and photography.
There’s another way to access **Facebook Camera**: from the dedicated page set up within Facebook, you can request it and receive the necessary authorization via SMS, in the form of a link.
The app will likely be released soon on other markets for Android and Windows Phone smartphones, but a launch date cannot be provided at this time.
**Facebook Camera** doesn’t have many notable particularities: it’s simply an application that facilitates taking photos and, more specifically, uploading them online, allowing you to apply filters, in pure Instagram style, and organize them to better integrate with your Timeline and Facebook wall.
It seems like a full-blown internal competition saga is unfolding between the two apps, which are not very different.
However, Facebook states that the development of **Facebook Camera**, and in particular its filters, was done entirely independently of Instagram’s existing mechanisms.
To return to the article here on Fullpress about the acquisition of the well-known photo app, this might be a clear case of acquisition not for future expansion but to block the growth of a formidable competitor.
This is certainly just a hypothesis: **Facebook Camera**’s debut is so fresh that we cannot draw firm conclusions yet.
