Google is exploring the ground for offering a new movie rental service via YouTube. Initial negotiations have begun with Hollywood majors to establish agreements for the launch of the revolutionary online pay-per-view.
Renting a movie from the comfort of your home and watching it streaming on YouTube: apparently, this will be the new frontier of home entertainment by Google.
Most likely by the end of the year, the tentacles of the Mountain View giant will also reach this entertainment sector, allowing you to watch movies streaming on YouTube for a maximum price of $5.
These are the first leaks that have emerged in recent hours, during which it seems that intense negotiations are underway with Hollywood film majors.
It appears that the project for the so-called Apple TV has given the decisive impetus to accelerate Google’s negotiations. Leaks aside, the user base that could access YouTube‘s pay-per-view services would be truly vast and, according to a series of preliminary studies conducted by Google in recent months, the potential would be very encouraging. An opportunity that record companies could seriously consider, given that this mode of movie viewing could help offset the progressive decline in DVD sales.
If the strategic move were to truly bear the desired fruit, Google would effectively be synonymous with the very concept of “global“.
