Interview with Andrea Sorri, Country Manager for Italy at Axis Communications

Andrea Sorri developed his professional career both in the technical area and in the commercial area, with experiences and roles of increasing responsibility. In 2000 he began his career at Axis Communications as the first local force, subsequently taking on the role of sales and marketing manager and today becoming country manager, with a managerial and operational function in the business development strategy. Andrea Sorri, as a commercial expert, managed to create a commercial channel based on distributors and resellers who were able to bring Axis solutions to users, strengthening the company’s image and rapidly growing the business volume.

What does the Italian market look like and what are the prospects? The need for ever greater security by contemporary societies is substantially reflected in the video surveillance market as well, in which Axis, both worldwide and in Italy, continues to grow in line with sector study forecasts, i.e., 40% per year, a rate expected to be maintained until 2010. As Country Manager, I can only be satisfied with the awareness the Italian market is showing towards our products, and at the same time, I am more than optimistic about the increasing reception that IP technology will have among end users. What relationship do consumers have with this market? As already mentioned, a source of satisfaction is especially the gradual and constant increase in familiarity with network video surveillance by consumers. In other words, IP technology is meeting the multiple expectations of effective video surveillance, namely being an appropriate deterrent tool, supporting against vandalism, anti-terrorism, and territorial control. What is Axis’s vision? The main “vision,” but also “mission” of Axis is that, since everything can be communicated through intelligent networks, IP video surveillance will necessarily evolve; it guarantees both a response in alarm situations, an increased perception of security among citizens, and an improvement in resource management. Who is your typical customer? Basically, there are six vertical market types most sensitive to Axis products: public administration, transport, commerce, banking, industry, and education. The first three are definitely the most responsive, while the others require greater efforts in promoting the innovative technology. However, it is important to note that even the “soho” sector, which relates to mass end-users, has significant room for improvement. Who are your competitors? Our main competitor, or rather, our main competitors, are still producers of analog video surveillance rooted in the traditional market. Their strength remains the comfort of a consolidated solution, but limitations in various applications are gradually leading consumers towards more advanced digital technologies, in which Axis is the undisputed leader. What does Axis offer beyond the competitors present in Italy, why choose you? Regarding this question, I would like to be rather concise and synthetic. There are three aspects I would like to highlight: the first concerns the better image quality offered by our cameras; the second is the “product portfolio” capable of meeting any consumer need; and third is the qualified assistance offered both before the sale and in post-sale support. What are the sector innovations? One innovation definitely worth mentioning is the first camera on the market capable of offering zoom, pan, and tilt functions without moving parts. Additionally, it is worth noting the launch of products on the market with integrated intelligence in terms of image analysis. How did the last year go and what are your future goals? Awaiting to finish the year aligned with the main sector forecasts, the goal is to continue in this direction supported by corporate commitment and awareness of the quality of our products. We are convinced, finally, that since the future is oriented towards time optimization and information transmission via the internet through wireless connections, Axis’s advanced and professional technology can be increasingly demanded by any user seeking security, territorial control, or simply communication and information.
