HTC Buffy is the probable name of the Facebook phone. After many hypotheses, confirmation of the existence of the Facebook phone project appears to have arrived.
It seems the project to create a Facebook smartphone exists and has taken the form of an HTC: the Facebook phone should be called HTC Buffy.
This is not yet news with well-defined contours, not least because apparently HTC would not be the only hardware manufacturer consulted to fine-tune a smartphone whose primary vocation would be the use of Facebook on the go.
Nothing concrete is known about the operating system that the potential HTC Buffy should run: whether it is Android or Windows Phone?
At the moment, there are rumors of a highly customized version of Android , similar to what happens, for example, with Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet which, while based on Android, maintains a certain distance, allowing access only to Amazon’s Market and not the Android Market.
The magazine AllThingD, which cites anonymous sources, revealed the existence of the HTC Buffy for Facebook project, also because both Facebook and HTC maintain the utmost discretion and continue to echo the laconic “No comment“.
This is not a possible release expected in the coming months, as we are talking about at least another year of “gestation” for the Facebook phone, if not even 18 months.
The fact that HTC might be thinking about the hardware is not surprising at all: only a short time ago, the HTC Salsa and HTC Chacha models were presented, both strongly characterized by their social focus, complete with a dedicated button for Facebook access .
Now, however, the step forward seems to be further and decisive: we are indeed talking about a smartphone conceived primarily for Facebook and then for everything else.
The stakes are high, especially since Facebook currently maintains good collaborative relationships with about 475 telephone operators worldwide, so the distribution of such a device could already start with a certain advantage.
