Probably driven by the new Nokia Windows Phone, the Windows Phone MarketPlace continues to expand and now hosts 40 thousand applications.
Despite the dominance of apps for Apple devices and Androids, the Windows Phone MarketPlace is also successfully carving out a decent market share, having just reached 40 thousand applications available for download.
Developers seem to have decided to focus on this platform as well, obviously to expand their target user base, in order to also reach users of the new Windows Phones.
It was probably the release of the Nokia resulting from the agreement with Microsoft that gave the boost to the increase in new apps arriving: in particular, the Lumia 800 is receiving good feedback, so the focus is on attracting Market users of the brand new device Nokia.
Not by chance, apps like Foursquare and Tango have surfaced, two useful tools that have recently been profiled and programmed specifically to make them suitable for WP; the growth of the Market has shown a marked upward trend starting from October.
In general, it is noticeable that the majority of apps are free (68%), then there is 9% of apps that, although paid, allow free trial. Finally, the remaining 23% of applications can be downloaded after paying the indicated fee.
On average, just over 160 new apps are added to the Windows Phone MarketPlace every day: a respectable number, likely to rise, especially considering the probable release of Nokia Tablet Microsoft, tablets that could arrive already by the first half of 2012.
If the price is competitive and the hardware and software features comparable to Android tablets or the iPad, it is possible that a new segment of users accustomed to using Windows will be created who might appreciate such a tablet.
Of course, as with all tablets, the content potentially available is significant in itself and therefore the fact that developers are starting to move towards the Windows Phone MarketPlace could give further momentum to the possible launch and spread of Nokia Microsoft tablets.
