Amazon: MP3s for iPhone and iPod Available for Purchase Without iTunes

A surprise move by Amazon in the music sector: in the United States, it is now possible to purchase MP3s for iPhone and iPod Touch without needing to access iTunes.
The Amazon MP3 system from Amazon has indeed made a vast catalog of tracks accessible for Apple devices: once you select a song or album of interest by browsing on your iPhone or iPod Touch, you can access them without going through iTunes, but by using the dedicated “Cloud Player” app.
In this way, music files will reside in your personal “cloud” and can be listened to on your iPhone and iPod Touch whenever you wish, bypassing the purchases that had to be made on iTunes, as was necessary until now.
Steve Boom of Amazon stated that this innovation comes in response to numerous requests from Apple users who wanted an Amazon-branded system that allowed direct music purchases from their devices.
The consequence for Apple – at least theoretically – is evident: Amazon customers interested in this more direct purchase method, without intermediation from iTunes software and its store, would no longer generate revenue for Apple itself.

A lucrative and substantial market that has yielded good results until now and could be depleted by all those purchases that can now be made directly on Amazon, instead of iTunes.
The novelty has already launched in the United States where – it is worth remembering – “Amazon AutoRip” has also come into effect in recent days: this is a system through which Amazon will provide MP3 tracks related to CDs purchased in “physical” version, bought from 1998 to the present.
There is increasing attention and attraction for the music sales and consumption sector: the game between Amazon and Apple is becoming increasingly interesting, at least judging by Amazon’s continuous moves in this direction.
