Apparently, the YouTube staff would be studying a paid system for viewing some channels: in fact, we would be talking about pay-per-view.
The intention to make YouTube almost like a massive television container has been discussed more than once in recent years.
Today, however, we learn that the YouTube staff would be seriously considering the possibility of opening paid thematic channels.
The structure of the possible proposal to users is not yet clear, nor is it known if the payment of a hypothetical sum will relate only to individual events or to actual subscriptions.
The fact is that the price to pay could range from 1 dollar to 5 dollars per month, for content created specifically for YouTube by specific producers interested in the new project.
Initially, there should only be 25 paid channels, a seemingly small number but decisive for understanding how much users might like such a proposal.
It is rumored that the first taste of YouTube’s pay-per-view mode could be available as early as April, likely provided by collaborations with large, already established networks seeking new visibility, different from the context of simple television viewing.
It is clear that the initiative could also be attractive to lesser-known producers, opening up a whole series of new ways for entertainment products to circulate.
The specialized advertising magazine Advertising Age launched the preview regarding the paid channels on YouTube service: it would not be just the commercials placed at the beginning of videos or advertising banners that could attract capital into Google’s coffers, the owner of YouTube.
A strategy certainly to consider and potentially winning, on which, however, users will have the final say.
