After a long period of being free, Whatsapp becomes paid: collection of the price begins on Android.
One of the most widespread applications at the moment is undoubtedly WhatsApp, the instant messaging system that gains new users day by day.
Thanks to its simple and intuitive operation and the fact that there is no need to register for the service properly, WhatsApp has managed to become extremely viral – in the best sense of the word – achieving considerable numbers in a short time.
A success also due to the free nature of the service which, until yesterday, was guaranteed for owners of Android, BlackBerry e Windows Phone.
It has indeed been decided to introduce a price for WhatsApp which from today will cost 89 cents per year.
In reality, this news should not be interpreted as a novelty but as the simple application of a rule already contained in the terms of use of the service: on the official WhatsApp website it has always been stated that for iPhone there is a single charge, at the time of the first download.
Quoting verbatim “For all other types of phones (Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Nokia) WhatsApp is free to download and try for the first year. Then, you can decide whether to subscribe for another year by paying $0.99 USD.“
Nothing new under the sun, but the news of the payment due by Android users is causing an uproar among those users who have not appreciated the move at all and who do not wish to pay anything for using WhatsApp.
Especially since it would mean paying the fee every year and not just once, as is the case for iPhone owners.
this is precisely one of the most discussed points online and in the comments left in recent hours on the Google Play Store.
Alternatives to WhatsApp exist and are also free; in fact, disappointed users are threatening to switch to apps like Viber, Skype, Facebook Messenger, or Tango.
It will be interesting to see if the growth and spread of these other apps will be comparable to that of WhatsApp.
