Yahoo! fires the general manager over the phone, the hunt for a replacement begins

Yahoo! number one Carol Bartz leaves, not by her own will but because she was forced to leave. Bartz’s dismissal came by phone.

The fastest and most impersonal way to fire someone? By phone. That’s what happened to the number one at Yahoo!, Carol Bartz, who received the bad news over the phone. A particular case, to say the least, which in Italy would have had many repercussions.

While in our country they are dealing with article 18 (companies with more than 15 employees) and its modification, just these days, with the anger of the CGIL that does not approve the amendment proposed by the government about the possibility of firing even with the approval of the unions, in the United States these issues are far from the world of work.

To be fair, it should be noted that the dismissal of an executive (like the head of Yahoo!), even in Italy is not subject to rules like art. 18. However, before a boss can leave the “chair,” there is plenty of time to think about severance and compensations.

Carol Bartz’s farewell from Yahoo!, therefore, made people reflect not so much on the fact itself which in these times is absolutely normal, but on the methods very far from our mentality.

Meanwhile, at Yahoo! they are hunting for Carol Bartz’s replacement, at the helm of the American corporation for three years. While waiting to know the new coach, the reins have been handed over to the financial director Timothy Morse, as communicated by the American company itself.

Carol Bartz is forced to leave despite her work being marked by balance. Forced to drastic cost cuts but also of personnel to balance the books, the revenue column still showed weakness on the advertising side. No doubt due to the economic tightening that hit all countries in the world (including the States), but also because of a Yahoo! business model still shapeless and, above all, without appeal.
