“Windows Phone Refresh” is the name of the operating system until now known as “Tango”. Here are some previews regarding Refresh, designed for low-cost smartphones.
There has been much talk about future versions of the Microsoft operating system designed for new smartphones, especially after the partnership with Nokia.
Always known by the name “Tango“, we now learn that the official name of the next operating system will be “Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh“.
This piece of information specifically emerged during an interview with Stefania Duico – head of the Windows Phone Business Group in Italy – given to the website TechWeek Europe: she, therefore a direct and highly reliable company source, was the one to circulate the name and let it be known that this new operating system will run on low-cost, entry-level smartphones.
There will be no substantial changes compared to what is already available at the moment, and therefore the name “Refresh” seems decidedly fitting and very appropriate to designate a version that has been refined for the occasion for devices of different tiers, merely refreshed in order to better adhere to reference standards.
The novelties will therefore be visible in the coming months, when in addition to the new Nokia Windows Phone smartphones, other models may also arrive.
In particular, it seems that Samsung smartphones with Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh are being studied, and it is not excluded that other hardware manufacturers may also choose to produce some models with the Windows Phone operating system.
A lot to consider, therefore, and a single but strong underlying idea: to make the Windows Phone operating system as adaptable as possible to the most diverse mobile devices.
Work in this direction has already begun, and likely, more than on Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh, it will be fully testable on the next major update planned in the coming months: Windows Phone 8 Apollo, arriving by the end of the year.
