The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard is the keyboard for the BlackBerry PlayBook, useful for using RIM’s tablet with greater speed. Here are its features and selling price.
Very often, following the release of new tablets, the market for dedicated accessories grows, churning out cases, cables, external speakers, and sometimes even keyboards.
RIM has therefore decided to officially present a keyboard for the BlackBerry PlayBook: it is the BlackBerry Mini Keyboard.
An official accessory, not a so-called “compatible” one, therefore.
The keyboard and the tablet communicate via an encrypted Bluetooth protocol and can be easily transported together using a dedicated case.
In fact, by using this latter solution, it will be as if the tablet, combined with the keyboard, becomes a sort of never-before-seen netbook.
The case is sold together with the keyboard itself, in a single package.
Regarding the accessory’s operation, it should be noted that when the tablet is connected to the BlackBerry Mini Keyboard, the virtual keyboard on the screen automatically disappears, leaving the display free for its entire size.
In addition to being able to type easily, it is possible to emulate the same gestures that would be made on the screen, but using the touchpad, which also recognizes gestures that would simulate the operation of a mouse.
Regarding the battery life of the BlackBerry Mini Keyboard, the technical notes speak of a month of full operation without the need for a new recharge.
It is certainly a useful tool for those who, for example, may need to work on the go, but it must be said that the selling price is certainly not among the cheapest, especially when compared to the cost of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet: the BlackBerry Mini Keyboard price officially announced for the US market is $120.
