Chris Walshie, an Australian developer, has tweeted important news in the sector: he has reportedly found a way to jailbreak Windows Phone 7.

This is just a first step, and not even open to everyone but only to developers registered on the Marketplace. However, it is a start on the road to jailbreaking Windows Phone 7 devices.
Chris Walshie seems to have managed to insert his application by bypassing the framework normally used for the operation, thus managing to interact directly with the operating system and therefore using the native code of the application.
It all started after a report by hounsell, an active user on xda-developers.com: hounsell noticed that Samsung’s Network Profile, an application present on the Marketplace, used its own native code. This should theoretically not be possible, as this is a third-party application.
By starting to work on this peculiarity, Chris Walshie managed to act directly on the registry, using native code, while still going through the Marketplace.
As mentioned earlier, this is only the first step towards jailbreaking, a procedure that opens up infinite possibilities for customizing your device but which – it should always be remembered – effectively voids the device’s warranty, as it would obviously be tampered with.
