The fight against stalkers also involves technology: Vodafone has presented Vodafone Angel, a mobile phone to stop stalking acts.
Vodafone has decided to take action against the phenomenon of stalking and violence against women by introducing a new innovation: it is called Vodafone Angel and is a new mobile phone designed as a tool for defense and possibly prevention.
Far from being a simple phone, Vodafone Angel is actually a complete global system, which can be activated precisely by using the newly presented mobile phone.
Following a trial conducted in collaboration with the Rome Police Headquarters on a sample group of 33 women who had experienced stalking, the Vodafone Angel project is now being rolled out nationwide.
How does Vodafone Angel work?
The device looks like a normal mobile phone, but is equipped with some special buttons.
By pressing the dedicated button for several seconds, Vodafone Angel establishes a connection with the anti-violence center.
What’s more, with this simple action, the phone reveals its dual functionality.
The ambient listening and contextual recording feature is automatically activated: this way, even a victim who cannot speak explicitly into the phone can be helped, and furthermore, a record of the event will remain thanks to the recording, which can potentially be used as evidence.
The anti-violence center will be able to immediately know that the call is coming from a Vodafone Angel and will also be able to identify the victim’s name.
Additionally, the Vodafone Angel used in this way will be able to indicate the geographical coordinates, allowing the movements of the stalking victim to be tracked.
Should the situation become unmanageable and dangerous, law enforcement will be alerted. Possessing the coordinates communicated by Vodafone Angel’s internal GPS system, they will be able to intervene precisely and easily.
The methods and timeline for the distribution of Vodafone Angel are not yet known.
