Exactly as anticipated a few days ago on FullPress, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion sees the light on Wednesday, July 25th, following the official presentation during Apple’s quarterly earnings conference.
It was Tim Cook who introduced the release of the new operating system that is about to invade Macs worldwide: the download of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion starts today and, as developers are beginning to learn, it wouldn’t be too different from the Golden Master version already released about a dozen days ago.
Furthermore, the increasing similarity with iOS, the operating system that runs on Apple’s portable devices, has been confirmed: everything, therefore, seems to be converging in a single direction, to create an integrated and highly recognizable “Apple cosmos” on any device or platform.
The new OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion will be released for download at 2:00 PM in Italy, but it will be an upgrade that will not be free: no surprise, this fact is widely known.
The price of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is confirmed at 15.99 euros, a more than justified figure given that the new version of the operating system features around 200 innovations compared to Lion.
To mention just a few, iChat has been replaced by Messages; there is full integration of Twitter; the Notification Center allows you to keep track of all incoming alerts from Reminders, Mail, Messages, and Calendar; Gatekeeper manages new installations, and so on.
It is recalled that to use OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, you must have at least an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor. Another requirement is to have at least 2 GB of RAM: these are the minimum system requirements needed to access the range of new possibilities offered by the just-released operating system.
