The Viber for iPhone application sets a record: over one million downloads for making free calls from your iPhone to other iPhones less than three days after its release on the App Store.

Viber for iPhone is the free application that allows you to make free calls to other iPhones equipped with Viber. It’s impossible not to draw a mental association with Skype, but unlike it, Viber doesn’t require any registration or special configuration: it’s practically ready to use. Once downloaded, Viber will import your iPhone’s contacts, identifying those who have already downloaded Viber. Identifying them is very simple, as an “Free Call” icon will appear next to their name.
Viber works over Wi-Fi or 3G networks, and both devices involved in the VoIP communication via Viber must be connected at the time of the call.
Viber Media, the company that developed and launched the application, has already promised the release of updates to send free SMS messages, but especially dedicated versions of Viber for Android, BlackBerry, and Symbian in the near future.
It goes without saying that Viber certainly doesn’t represent an absolute innovation, as, as mentioned earlier, Skype is ideally the precursor to this application, available on the App Store. However, the simplicity of registration and the high sound quality during free calls guarantee its success.
Furthermore, the fact that the contact list populates automatically and the graphics are “superimposable” on the classic iPhone interface, being very similar, further enhances the user experience for Apple enthusiasts.
