Two very different companies have joined forces to design a new watch called Swatch Bellamy, which is quite different from other smartwatches on the market.
It is, in fact, a true analog watch, yet in its own way entirely new and special: Swatch is launching it, in collaboration with Visa.
Its particularity lies in the fact that – while not being a smartwatch – it has an NFC technology module inside. This therefore allows for electronic payments to be made, without the need to use credit or debit cards.
Simply approach the watch to POS terminals enabled for this type of payment method for amounts to be paid at the time of purchase.
Swatch Bellamy is therefore a fully-fledged analog watch and differs enormously from smartwatches because – first and foremost – it does not have connectivity modules, neither Wi-Fi nor mobile.
Furthermore, its dial is not a touchscreen nor is its body equipped with any sensors. Therefore, it cannot perform any operations attributable to any wearable device.
In fact, this watch is configured as a sort of electronic wallet to wear on the wrist, through which you can do nothing but pay.
As of this writing, it is learned that Swatch and Visa have decided to launch this particular watch initially in some selected markets: after the presentation in China, it was decided to release Swatch Bellamy naturally in Switzerland – as Swatch’s homeland – as well as in the United States and Brazil.
However, it is understood that its arrival in Europe could happen as early as the first quarter of 2016.
It is not yet possible to communicate a possible sale price, as no official news has been received from the brand’s communication departments.
What can be said is that in China, a price of 580 yuan has been set, corresponding to about 90 dollars.
