Low cost price and an October release: here are the first clues about the arrival of Surface, the Microsoft tablet, on the market.
There is anticipation in the tablet sector following the news of the existence of Surface, Microsoft’s tablet that appears to be already alarming some competitors.
According to the latest rumors from some American media, in fact, Surface would be completely ready and thus on the verge of its release: the site Engadget mentions October 26, 2012, as a possible launch date for the Microsoft-branded tablet.
In reality, the aspect not to be underestimated would not be so much the upcoming release, but the probable price suggested by Microsoft itself: Surface, it seems, will cost 199 euros for the basic version.
A price within reach of many that would effectively configure the possible scenario of direct competition, in particular, with the Kindle Fire and the Nexus 7, the record-breaking tablet that registered the end of stock due to the high number of purchase requests.
Acer also seems to be somewhat concerned about the advent of Surface at this price: according to reports from CNet News, in fact, rumors have leaked that the CEO of Acer would have expressed the desire to speak with Microsoft’s executives about the Surface project, in order to establish a higher final selling price.
The risk would be to destabilize the tablet market, potentially even damaging it.
We just have to wait for October 26, the day when Microsoft will certainly present the Windows 8 operating system to the world: will Surface actually be launched on the same date at the price hypothesized today?
