Soon, Sky will block Sky Go platform content for all users who have jailbroken or rooted their devices.
A surprise move by Sky, targeting all users who – for viewing Sky Go – use devices that have been jailbroken (for Apple products) or rooted (for Android).
The company has threatened to suspend the service, with the exception of the Sky Tg 24 broadcast, by issuing a specific message to users.
In the communication received by all affected customers these days, it reads: “Given the breadth of the new Sky Go offering, we wish to inform you that to protect the value of the content, it will no longer be possible to receive Sky Go channels, excluding SkyTg24, on smartphones and tablets modified by the user against the manufacturer’s instructions through jailbreak and rooting activities“.
To continue using Sky Go, therefore, users will need to revert their iPhone, iPad, or Android smartphone to their initial settings: this way, Sky will not suspend the service.
The company’s decision has not left users indifferent. Despite paying for their Sky subscription, they do not understand what is perceived as a genuine privacy invasion regarding the use of devices like smartphones or tablets.
Personal devices that, according to protesters, have no direct connection with Sky.
This is also because to access Sky Go, users must have a Sky subscription, and that should be sufficient for the company.
A decision, therefore, that is leaving many customers very unhappy, some of whom are already threatening to cancel their subscriptions entirely.
