Megaupload: Kim Dotcom’s Return Within the Year

Kim Dotcom seems intent on returning to the scene with Megaupload: he announces it via Twitter.

Just a while ago, we discussed Kim Dotcom‘s announcement of the upcoming launch of the Megabox service in the coming months.
As if that weren’t enough, a new tweet from him now suggests a grand return for Megaupload, the project recently shut down for alleged copyright infringement.
Just a few hours ago, in fact, this message appeared on Kim Dotcom’s official Twitter profile: “I know what you are all waiting for. It’s coming. This year. Promise. Bigger. Better. Faster. 100% Safe & Unstoppable.” which literally translates to: “So cosa state aspettando. Sta arrivando. Quest’anno. Promesso. Più grande. Migliore. Più veloce. Sicuro al 100% & Inarrestabile“.
While the name of the service being referred to is not explicitly stated, it’s impossible not to think of the blocked Megaupload.
Initially, it was hypothesized that it could instead be Megabox, which in this regard would represent an evolution of the more famous Megaupload.
To clear up some doubts, another message arrived on Twitter where Kim Dotcom specifies further: “Yes… Megabox is also coming this year” (Sì… anche Megabox arriverà quest’anno).

Therefore, Megabox is not the primary project mentioned in the first tweet.
The operational mechanism is not at all clear: if a paid model is hypothesized for Megabox, how can the need to generate revenue and legalize the transfer of material be reconciled for Megaupload with the promise of a return better than before?
The average user might indeed expect, once again, mostly free services which, perhaps, in this new guise, might not be guaranteed.
Many questions, not a single answer: perhaps more will be revealed in the next tweet.
