What is the Smartbook Chrome OS?
Difficult to explain in a nutshell. Partly because, after a partial announcement about two years ago, nothing more was heard about it. We must also consider that the high-tech market for “tiny” laptops has seen significant acceleration due to the emergence of tablets, devices that have overshadowed even the light and convenient netbooks in a few moves.
It is known that in the tech world, no innovation lasts for more than a certain period, given the rapid rise of new devices. And so, the prototype of Google’s Smartbook Chrome OS was forgotten. Until today: an indiscretion has emerged according to which Smartbook Chrome OS would be ready, even already on its way to take its place in stores worldwide.
The news was first reported by the website Digitimes, which bets on a launch already by the end of the month, with devices branded Google. Regarding the processor, it is rumored that ARM technology will be used and, in line with the current trend, Smartbook Chrome OS will work in the cloud and, consequently, it is immediately clear that to do so, constant connectivity will be necessary.
What market niche will Smartbook Chrome OS target?
It is not easy to make predictions in this regard, although it appears that Google intends to release approximately 70,000 units on the market (initially sold only online). Practically the same number of units – more or less – as the Nexus One.
