Skype Translator: Simultaneous Translations Coming Soon

Skype is about to get a new technology that will enable access to simultaneous translations: it’s Skype Translator.

An important announcement comes from Microsoft regarding the upcoming development of a new feature for Skype.
The popular web-based communication platform will be enhanced with an option that will make life easier for thousands of people worldwide: the “Skype Translator” system is currently in beta testing.
As the name suggests, this is a new optional feature that allows for simultaneous translations during a Skype call.
The news was officially announced by Skype Translator, Vice President of Skype, who specified that the first phase of Skype Translator’s launch will initially be through a Windows 8 app, and will later be extended to other major operating systems.
Regarding the availability of “vocabularies,” in the first phase, users will be able to choose translations for only a handful of languages, but the project is naturally much broader and aims for a significantly more complete offering.

The initiative is ambitious and extremely interesting, with all possible practical implications readily imaginable: talking with anyone anywhere in the world will be intuitive and require no special skills from Skype users.
Moreover, Microsoft’s path in this type of technology is already well-trodden: Skype Translator will indeed utilize several aspects of the same speech recognition technology that powers the Cortana, the voice assistant for Windows Phone.
The future in this regard looks promising for Microsoft, but especially for those who use Skype daily for any purpose: gaming, communication, social interaction, and work.
